layer scripts

This category contains scripts that alter layer settings and/or all objects on a layer. Here are some highlights:

LAYERFIND.RVB

purpose: Allows for quick batch manipulation of layers. Layers are chosen based on either a partial name match, a parent layer, or by the selection of objects. Chosen layers are remembered the next time the script is run.

Once layers are chosen, the user is presented with first menu of frequently used layer manipulations (all manipulations can be accessed with various shortcuts at any time):

Hide, Show, LockObjects, UnlockObjects - Leaves visibility/lock settings for other objects intact.
SelectObjects
IsolateLayers - Layers not chosen are hidden.
TurnOn, TurnOff, Lock, Unlock
MakeCurrent - Using a search term, this can be a useful way to quickly locate a buried layer in the layer palette.

Click "More" or hit the spacebar/enter key to cycle over to the second, more advanced menu:

Rename - Find/replace as well as Prefix/Suffix options, because nobody likes repetitive layer renaming.
Delete
Color
InheritColor, InheritMaterial - Inherit color or material settings from another layer based on a selected object, much like an eyedropper.
NewParent - Reorganize layers into a new parent layer. Especially great when you just want to compile all layers of visible objects under a new layer tree.
AddChosen - Manually add a new chosen layer to manipulate.
EditChosen - Remove/view chosen layers.
